Speaking of the DoubleBack™ Harness, check out Good Day Utah’s clip taken from Outdoor Retailer.
The October release of the DoubleBack™ Harness (a climbing harness for dogs) may have seemed like a bit of a stretch for dog—even for Ruff Wear dogs. But we’re not ones to be subtle about our outdoor aspirations. We’re proud to push the envelope when it comes to developing gear for all types of outdoor adventures.
While not everyone is cut out for a climbing adventure with their dog, we were anxious to provide a product for those who do. Our philosophy was, “people will climb with their dogs whether or not there is appropriate equipment to do so, so let’s make it safer for them to do it.”
As the mercury rises, a dog’s tolerance to heat lessens, forcing them to find shade, lie down, and pant the heat away. Keeping your dog active in high temperatures is a challenge, and can even be dangerous to their health.
One solution is the Ruff Wear Swamp Cooler™ cooling vest. Whether in the desert, on the beach, boating in open water, or playing in the sun, the Swamp Cooler acts as an air conditioner to keep your dog cool.
How does it work?
The Swamp Cooler uses evaporative technology to help pull heat up and away from the dog. Just soak the coat with water, ring out, and place on the dog. As the water on the coat evaporates, heat is displaced, thereby chilling the dog, much like an actual swamp cooler does for a house.
In addition to providing a cooling sensation, the Swamp Cooler also reflects incoming rays, and acts as a SPF blocker against UV rays.

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? We recently took a few of our office dogs out to Smith Rock in Terrebonne, Oregon to test and demonstrate our latest creation…The DoubleBack™ climbing harness for a dog. Our resident climbing experts strapped up three office dogs–Hank (a black Lab), Jack (a white Alaskan Husky), and Badger (a multi-colored Husky/Shepherd)–and tested their climbing and belay skills.
The “Highest Altitude Award” went to Badger, who managed to scale his way up to a ledge where he took a nice long break before making his way back down. “Most Relaxed Award” went to Jack, who used the harness like a hammock, nearly swinging himself to sleep. And Hank, our oldest climber, received the “Lifetime Achievement Award,” proving that, in fact, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

We’re never shy about our outdoor aspirations. So, it should come as no surprise that we’re preparing to launch our Fall/Winter line of products which includes a climbing harness for dogs!
After months of research, working with our factories, and getting advice from the team at Black Diamond, we’re beginning field testing our new DoubleBack™ Harness. But these field tests aren’t for just anyone or any dog. They require the skill of our resident climbing experts, as well as a fearless dog who’s willing to be strung up like a pinata! Pictured here is Rozgo, testing the medium-sized DoubleBack™ Harness in the rafters of our office.
