Exploring Dog Jackets: Part 2 – The Cloud Chaser

Last week we explored the Climate Changer™ – our go-to fleece dog jacket – ideal for outings in cool, dry conditions.

There is a saying here in the Cascades – “If you don’t like the weather, wait ten minutes.” When you are heading out for an adventure and have a hunch that the weather could turn for the worse, reach for our most technical soft shell layer – the Cloud Chaser.Soft Shell Dog Jacket - The Ruffwear Cloud Chaser

The Cloud Chaser is a favorite dog coat for many of Ruffwear’s employees – including our founder Patrick Kruse. “I like, or rather Mavis my dog prefers the Cloud Chaser. The fMavis staying warm like Gordoorm fitting technical shell keeps water out, allows for full range of motion while staying firmly in place through a wide range of aerobic activities, basically the Cloud Chaser keeps Mavis warm and dry and on her game when we are skiing and enjoying cooler weather activities. Allows her to keep up with her good friend Gordo who is always dressed for the occasion in his Malamute / Husky coat.”

So what features make this dog coat stand apart? First, the durable upper panel is both waterproof and windproof protecting dogs from rain, snow and frigid winds. The lower DuPont® Teflon® material provides excellent coverage that sheds water, snow and dirt. Lining both the upper and lower panels inside the coat is a warm fleece layer that retains the dog’s core body heat to keep them warm for extended winter outings.

Product Development team members Lindsay and Debbie both prefer the Cloud Chaser for winter activities. Lindsay’s dog Kaya “uses the Cloud Chaser to reduce the amount of snowballs her fur collects during early-season snowstorms here in the Pacific Northwet!” That is no typo folks, it can be wet here in the Pacific Northwest.

Debbie says, “The Cloud Chaser is simply awesome for our winter adventures.  SnowExtend Snow Adventures by Staying Warm shoeing and seeing our two black labs rip through the snow is incredible!  This coat keeps them warm and dry.  The wind resistance is great too! We also cross country ski and we have the dogs in the Cloud Chaser for that as well. When we get a dumping of snow and just need to walk in our neighborhood it is so nice to give them the protection from the biting wind with this coat.”

A full-length side zipper allows for easy on/off as well as providing a snug fit, eliminating the chance of snow collecting in the underside of the jacket. To increase low-light visibility, our designers added reflective trim on both sides of the coat as well as a light loop for attaching The Beacon™ or any other safety light.

If you are wondering which dog jacket is best for your dog and have big snow/winter adventures planned, the Cloud Chaser is your best bet.

  2. [...] Moria, aka “Mo,” in Customer Service calls the K-9 Overcoat “The Quiver Jacket.” “My ‘go-to’ jacket for Jada is the K-9 Overcoat. This is my daily winter jacket when she is on her evening off-leash run. As one of the craziest of the crazy dogs, she tears through and leaps over brush, chasing smells. The K-9 Overcoat holds up to the constant abuse from abrasion and keeps her nearly hairless body warm and free of scrapes! It fits perfectly and when paired with The Beacon™, is visible from a distance so I can keep her within eyesight in the dark evenings. I call it Jada’s “Quiver Jacket”.” Read about Mo’s Van-Tastic Life here. [...]

  3. That reminds me I need to get one for my doggie. I live in Estonia and the winters here can get really cold.
